PHILANTHROPY

Philanthropy is the largest and most important aspect of our sisterhood in Sigma Delta Tau, and this is shown with our sisters’ dedication to our philanthropy events. Through our partnerships with Prevent Child Abuse America and Jewish Women International, our sisterhood has made a remarkable impact to uplift our community and empower others. Through educational opportunities and fundraising events, we have grown to be more knowledgeable about these important issues, and have been able to make a direct impact to support these organizations. We’re so proud to partner with these philanthropies and are incredibly thankful to everyone who has supported our events and contributed to our success.
— Leah Levenson, Fall 2021 Vice President of Philanthropy

BOOKSDT SALE

Sigma Delta Tau is proud to support one of our national philanthropies, Jewish Women International (JWI), during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On October 23rd and 24th, the Gamma Tau chapter sold pre-loved books to raise money for JWI’s National Library Initiative. JWI’s National Library Initiative helps ease the traumatic upheaval of leaving unsafe living environments by creating children's libraries in domestic violence shelters - transforming basic spaces into comforting havens with colorful furniture and rugs, computers and toys, and hundreds of new books that represent the diversity of the women and children served. JWI has already furnished new libraries in shelters across the country, including one here in New York City that our SDT sisters have supported. The money raised will keep a steady supply of new books and equipment in these libraries, so the kids who use them have access to the resources they need and a safe, peaceful place to recover and study when they’re most at risk of falling behind in school.
We are proud to report that we had a very successful event and donated over $1,000 to this cause!

Prevent Childhood Abuse America - Sigma Delta tau’s National Philanthropy

Sigma Delta Tau's first national philanthropy is Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA). PCAA builds awareness, educates, and works with everyone involved in the effort to prevent the abuse and neglect of America's children. Prevention efforts are implemented nationwide at both the national and local level.

Our chapter holds two large events, the It Factor and Eat Your Heart Out, every year raise money for PCAA. To find out more about PCAA and how you can help prevent child abuse, please visit PreventChildAbuse.org.

Jewish Women International - Sigma Delta Tau’s National Philanthropy

Sigma Delta Tau’s second national philanthropy is Jewish Women International (JWI). JWI empowers women to take control of their futures through economic literacy, community training, healthy relationships, and the expansion of women’s leadership. Sigma Delta Tau is proud to support JWI’s mission to help women and girls thrive in healthy relationships, have jurisdiction over their futures financially, and to push for all women to realize the level of their own personal strength. To find out more about JWI, please visit JWI.org.

It Factor

In our annual It Factor production, various Greek organizations battle for first place with choreographed dances, hilarious skits, incredible singing and everything in between at our old-school talent show on Columbia's biggest stage. Thankfully, our celebrity judges don’t pit them against the guest performances from some of our favorite acapella and dance groups on campus. Nothing is more fun than working together for an amazing cause! In 2019, we're proud to say we raised over $5,000 for Prevent Child Abuse America. See you there!
